I have had the outboard for 4 years and this has never happened before.

They sometimes are dislodged when the gauge is being removed and it can wind up at the bottom of the oil tank.
The 2 stroke oil is not transferring from my external reservoir to the one on the.
The seal is designed to live its life in the oil supply.
I have a mid 90s yamaha 70hp precision blend 2 stroke.
The oil leakage now might be the least of concerns.
Troubleshooting the alarm system includes making sure the horn associated with the alarm works making sure the warning light comes on and the horn sounds when the oil level drops below acceptable levels and ensuring the warning sounds if the engine overheats.
Fwiw while trouble shooting i replaced the following for naught.
Remote tank sensor remote tank pump.
Its purpose is to force oil to flow through the strainer and not bypass the strainer at the nipple.
I turned it off and tried it again several times.
The oil tank is full.
The emergency bypass fill switch does work by allowing the tank to fill with this switch engaged.
Need to find the seal.
I was starting it this morning and as soon as i turned the key the alarm buzzer went off.
But with alarm blarring and remote float at full level tank would fill.
Engine tank should begin filling after 4 5 seconds and stop when gets full.
